National Deaf Children’s Society and Family Fund Launch New UK Wide Support Programme

A new UK‑wide partnership between the National Deaf Children’s Society and Family Fund is giving families raising deaf children vital access to BSL learning, assistive tech and specialist support.
Families raising deaf children across the UK will now have access to expanded financial and practical support thanks to a new nationwide programme launched through a partnership between the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) and Family Fund.
The initiative, announced on 3 February 2026, is designed to help deaf children aged 0 to 11, or those still in primary education, participate more fully in daily life by improving communication, learning, and access to specialist resources.
A programme focused on communication, learning and inclusion
The programme offers grants to help families secure:
- British Sign Language (BSL) courses
- Assistive technology that supports hearing, communication, or learning
Computers and tablets to aid communication and educational development
These targeted resources aim to enable deaf children to communicate more effectively and take part confidently in family life, education and play.
Supporting all levels of hearing loss
NDCS, the UK’s national charity for deaf children, supports children with any level of hearing loss from mild to profound including those with unilateral or temporary hearing loss such as glue ear. The charity continues to champion better services, provide specialist guidance, and connect families across the UK.
Through the partnership with Family Fund, the programme reinforces NDCS’s mission to remove barriers and ensure that deaf children can thrive. Families will be able to access practical support that strengthens communication, fosters stronger relationships and boosts wellbeing at home and at school.
Who can apply
Families may be eligible if:
- they are the main carer applying on behalf of a deaf child
- they live in the UK
- the child is aged 0–11, or still in primary education
Applications are now open and can be made directly through the The National Deaf Children's Society Family Fund website. Families who have previously received Family Fund grants can still apply under this new programme.
A significant step for families raising Deaf children
The partnership represents a major step in bridging gaps in communication support and ensuring deaf children can access the tools they need to thrive. Advocacy groups such as BATOD have highlighted the importance of this initiative in offering specialist equipment, technology and BSL learning opportunities to families nationwide.
