Help to live at home

There’s support available to help you live independently. Whether you want to live more independently now or in the future, there are lots of ways to get support. This can help you feel more confident, safe and ready to manage everyday life.

Support available at home

You can get help to stay independent, such as:

• support with day‑to‑day tasks
• help with understanding how home‑care services work
• information about how payments or funding support works

There’s also equipment you can use at home to make life easier, for example, tools that support cooking, bathing, or mobility. Some items may be available to borrow.

Websites like Living Made Easy have ideas for gadgets that can support your independence. 

You may also be able to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to help pay for home adaptations, like a ramp, rails, or accessible bathroom improvements.

Choosing where to live

If you're thinking about moving out, you can get support with:

• finding the right housing
• supported living options
• learning what you need to live safely and confidently

The Shared Lives scheme offers support where you can live or stay for short periods with a carer in their home.

Walsall's housing team can help with finding a home to buy or rent and also provides specialist support to young people who need to find accommodation. Contact them for more help and advice.
